A little problem with a tooth abscess can really be quite debilitating. My husband was a 35 year old man that had only gone to the dentist four times in his entire life. My husband absolutely hated the dentist, when he was very young he had to go to the dentist to get about three of his teeth pulled. He grew up very poor, and because of that his parents did not take very good care of his teeth. Whenever he had a problem with his teeth they just got them pulled, and because of that my husband is completely and totally terrified. About two years ago my husband woke up with a very bad pain in his tooth. He told me about the pain, but he told me that it was not that bad and he went on with his day. He came home that very same day and told me that the pain in his tooth only got worse, and that it really hurt him to eat. I told him that he was going to have to go to the dentist, but he told me there was no way that was going to happen. About a week went buy and the problem with my husband’s tooth was not getting any better, in fact it was getting a lot worse. It got to the point that my husband was no longer able to eat. He would just eat soups and shakes, because it was too painful to eat food. I told my husband that I was going to take him to the dentist whether he wanted to go or not. My husband finally gave in after weeks of pain, and I took him to the dentist shaking and almost crying. He sat down to the dentist chair and the dentist told him that he had a tooth abscess. He told my husband that he was going to have to do an operation on the tooth, but that my husband was not going to feel any pain. My husband did not believe him, but as soon as the dentist injected him with Novocain, he could feel absolutely nothing. The dentist was able to fix the dental abscess within a very small period of time, and my husband walked out of the dental office pain free for the first time in weeks. My husband told me that he could not believe that he was so terrified of the dentist, because he knew that if he had gone to the dentist a lot sooner he could’ve saved himself a lot of pain and discomfort. My husband’s example proves that it is a lot better to deal with a tooth abscess in the beginning than to wait a longer time and go through a lot of pain.
